Holiday and Christmas party magician for metro Detroit

A company Christmas party is a room full of people who work together but do not always talk to each other. Magic fixes that, whether it happens table to table or from the front of the room.

Three ways I can do it

Close-up, moving through the room. Strolling during drinks and dinner. I move table to table so everyone gets a turn, and it runs alongside your evening instead of interrupting it. This is the one most company holiday parties want.

Parlor, everyone seated. A seated set of fifteen to thirty minutes that gathers the whole room together. This works well just before a speech or an awards presentation, when you want everyone facing the same way anyway.

Stage, for a bigger room. For a larger company party, a full stage show with sound and lighting, built to read from the back of the room. If you are hiring a ballroom and putting a stage in it, this is the format that uses it.

Fitting around dinner, speeches and the rest of your evening

Nobody hires a magician to run the night. The strolling set needs no stage, no sound, no lighting and nothing for your venue to set up, so it drops into whatever schedule you already have. I arrive early, find whoever is running the evening, and work around the food and the speeches rather than across them.

On coverage, so you can plan properly: in an hour of strolling I get around roughly sixty to seventy people at a comfortable pace. Past about seventy five guests, ninety minutes is the number that reaches everybody. I would rather tell you that before you book than have you notice it on the night.

December books early

Here is the part worth acting on. The first two Saturdays in December go first, usually by October. If your party is on a December Saturday and you have a magician in mind, book them now rather than in November.

Where I work

I am based in Oakland County and travel up to two hundred miles, so the whole of Southeast Michigan is a normal drive.

In Oakland County that means Troy, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Royal Oak, Rochester, Auburn Hills, Novi, Farmington Hills and Southfield. In Macomb County, Sterling Heights, Shelby Township, Clinton Township, Utica and Warren. Plus Detroit itself, Grosse Pointe and the Pointes, Dearborn and the downriver cities, Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County, and out as far as Lansing, Port Huron, Monroe and Jackson when the date works.

Company parties in December tend to happen in the same handful of places: hotel ballrooms, banquet centers, country clubs, and the private rooms restaurants hold back for the season. I have worked all of them. A room full of round tables changes what lands, and I plan for the room you actually booked.

Insurance and the paperwork your venue will ask for

Hotels, country clubs and conference centers usually want a certificate of insurance naming them before they will let a vendor in the door. I carry general liability insurance and a certificate naming your venue takes one phone call and costs you nothing. Ask for it early and it is a non-event rather than a problem the week of the party.

All ages, and clean

Plenty of holiday parties have families in the room. Everything I do is clean and plays for grandparents and grandchildren at the same time, without anyone feeling talked down to. If your December event is a family party rather than a company one, the private parties page covers that version.

Common questions

How much does a holiday party magician cost?

Events start at $500 and I hold that rate through December, which is my busiest month. A parlor set or a stage show is priced above strolling, because it is a different booking.

When should we book for December?

September or October for a December Saturday. By late November the good dates are gone.

How many guests can you cover?

About sixty to seventy people in an hour of strolling. For seventy five or more, ninety minutes reaches everybody with time to spare. A seated parlor set plays to the whole room at once, whatever the number, which is why it suits a bigger party.

Can you do a short set rather than the whole evening?

Yes, and that is exactly what the parlor set is. Thirty minutes, everyone seated, then you have your room back. I will tell you straight whether that is enough for your guest count.

Do you carry insurance?

Yes, general liability, and I can have a certificate issued naming your venue at no cost to you. Most hotels and country clubs ask for one.

What do you need from us on the night?

For strolling, nothing at all beyond somewhere to park and a point of contact I can reach. For a parlor or stage set, a space to work in and everyone facing the same way.
